Edinburgh House of Prayer

For us, the Prayer Room is a place of overflowing fulness, an unhurried place of worship and joy out of which God prompts prayer for various people and issues.

Edinburgh House of Prayer was born out of Wellsprings Community, with the vision of Rachel Hewitt. She gathered some others around her to help launch a regular rhythm of prayer to serve the city and the nation, based in the Prayer Room.

This was seen as ‘neutral space’ that people from different churches could gather in, inspired partly by the 24/7 Urban Monastery ‘boiler room’ pattern and the IHOP rooms, yet intending from the start to be an indigenous expression.

EHOP has developed over the years, and Rachel handed over the leadership of it to her parents David & Maggie when she moved to Gibraltar. David & Tjits Powell arrived around the same time, and were a huge help in establishing a regular pattern during the week.

Now it is less scheduled, but you are welcome to join us7.30pm Friday evenings fortnightly worship time (Check diary) which tends to involve a contemplative, Celtic communion office!

Parking available at Maingait Medway nearby and Lothian no.30 bus stops outside the door. Regular trains to Newcraighall Station (7 mins walk).

The Prayer Room can be available at other times for personal prayer and reflection, by arrangement, or for church retreats and meetings.
